.TH bom "" "" "/act/opr Command"
.PC "Produce bill-of-materials from parts list"
.B bom
.PP
.II "bill of materials"
The command
.B bom
is part of the accounting/operations system included with
.BR /rdb .
It creates a bill-of-materials table from table
.BR part ,
which holds all of the items that are required to make a product,
and the table
.BR saleitem ,
which holds all sales items from the sales department.
This tells how many items must be manufactured or purchased
to meet current sales orders.
.PP
.B bom
writes its output into table
.BR bom .
.SH Example
Assume the table
.B saleitem
contains the following data:
.DM
Order Number Code Backord Qty Price Total Name
----- ------ ---- ------- --- ----- ------- ----
1 1 rdb 10 1 1500 1500.00 /rdb
2 1 rdb 10 2 1500 3000.00 /rdb
3 1 rdb 10 5 1500 7500.00 /rdb
3 2 act 10 10 1500 15000.00 /act
4 1 rdb 10 5 1500 7500.00 /rdb
4 2 rdb 10 19 1500 28500.00 /rdb
5 1 rdb 10 5 1500 7500.00 /rdb
5 2 act 10 9 1500 13500.00 /act
.DE
.PP
Assume, too, that the table
.B part
contains the following
data:
.DM
Code Subpart Count
------- ------- -------
act binder 2
act actdoc 2
act f1 10
rdb binder 2
rdb rdbdoc 2
rdb f1 10
.DE
.PP
The command
.B bom
reads these tables to produce the following summary table:
.DM
Code Qty
------- -------
actdoc 38
binder 112
f1 560
rdbdoc 74
.DE
.PP
You can see that we have orders for 19 copies of
.BR act s
in the
.B salesitem
table.
Each package has two documents, for a total of 38
.BR actdoc s.
Note that table
.B bom
lists 560 floppies ((19 act x 10) + (37 rdb x 10)).
We can order these, regardless
of which software packages are being put onto them.
